Alaska chiropractic, from accepting barter to adjusting outside in 30 below, a challenge
DCs face challenges outside the norm, and sometimes outside belief, performing Alaska chiropractic care for patients It’s probably been a while as a doctor of chiropractic since you’ve loaded a folding adjustment table into a small four-seater Cessna to fly to a small town, or accepted barter instead of a fee for service, or set up your table beside an ice rink in 30-below weather, or driven your snow plow down a frozen river to service the small villages along it. Chiropractic in some of the rural regions of Alaska can be a different animal. Being at the start and finish of the Iditarod [dog race] with a folding table, that’s an experience,” says Walter Campbell, DC, and founder of Arctic Chiropractic Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy in Alaska. “To be a chiropractor here you gotta love some of the things that make it difficult. You have to enjoy contending with Mother Nature, or it’s not the place for you.” Rural roots Raised in the remote north, “about the farthest north you can be and still be in the U.S.,” Campbell knows rural Alaska. The town he grew up in had no roads. “It’s kind of inhospitable, even to […]

Opioids: What They Are And How They Work
Arctic Chiropractic Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy is an Alaskan company with an “authentically Alaskan” origin. When Governor Tom Wolf declared 90-day heroin and opioid epidemic statewide disaster emergency in January 2018, Pennsylvania became the eight state to do so following Alaska, Arizona, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, South Carolina, and Virginia. President Donald Trump has also declared it a public health emergency. From 1999 to 2017, more than 700,000 people have died from a drug overdose and almost 400,000 of them from any opioid including prescription and illicit opioids • Around 68% of the more than 70,200 drug overdose deaths in 2017 involved an opioid. • In 2017, the number of overdose deaths involving opioids (including prescription opioids and illegal opioids like heroin and illicitly manufactured fentanyl) was 6 times higher than in 1999. • On average, 130 Americans die every day from an opioid overdose.1 This rise in opioid overdose deaths can be outlined in three distinct waves. 1. The first wave began with increased prescriptions of opioids in the 1990s, with overdose deaths involving prescription opioids (natural and semi-synthetic opioids and methadone) increasing since at least 1999. 2. The second wave began in 2010, with rapid increases in overdose deaths […]

Arctic Chiropractic Exemplifies Quality Conservative Healthcare in Alaska
Arctic Chiropractic Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy is an Alaskan company with an “authentically Alaskan” origin. Dr. Walter Campbell, a lifelong Alaskan, founded Arctic Chiropractic in 2005 to offer chiropractic services to under served, rural areas where services were greatly needed. The company has gone from a one man itinerant clinic, servicing a few locations in rural Alaska, to a network of twenty chiropractic clinics and nine physical therapy clinics, spanning the state from Utqiaġvik (Barrow) to Dutch Harbor, Nome to Ketchikan, and most places in between. Dr. Campbell was born in Fairbanks, raised in Utqiaġvik, and now resides in Palmer. Growing up in Utqiaġvik, he was acutely aware of the needs of rural Alaskans and how difficult it can be to receive quality healthcare. “From early on, I knew the next step in advancing chiropractic healthcare in Alaska was to bring it to the areas in Alaska that needed it most and had little access to it,” Dr. Campbell says. “So we have been able to do that, and it’s been the most rewarding aspect of my career. We’ve brought a lot to places that didn’t have many, if any options before. I’m also very proud of our larger clinics […]

Welcome to Our New Website!
In 2005, Arctic Chiropractic Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy was founded to provide chiropractic care to remote areas of Alaska where chiropractic was lacking. Growing up in Alaska, we were acutely aware of the special needs of rural Alaskans and how difficult it was to receive quality health care. In many cases a flight to Anchorage or Fairbanks was required to obtain health care services. We therefore decided that the next step in advancing chiropractic health care in Alaska was to bring it to the areas in Alaska that needed it most and had little access to it. Bringing Chiropractic Care to Alaska Following the axiom led Arctic Chiropractic Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy to establish the Bethel clinic in Bethel 2005 and then the Kotzebue clinic in 2006, All the while maintaining monthly remote service to Healy and the residents of the Tri-Valley area. The West Mat-Su soon followed; located in the meadow lakes area, it was established to bring better chiropractic access to the communities of Wasilla, Meadow Lakes, Big Lake, Houston, Willow, and Talkeetna. 2007 In Early 2007 the Arctic Chiropractic Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy Fairbanks and Anchorage offices opened their doors to provide service to those areas, and also to offer care for rural […]
