Dr. John Grounds

Dr. John Grounds D.C. moved to Ketchikan in September 2020 from Houston, Texas where he was born and raised. He enjoys spending his time hiking the trails, weight training, reading, and taking his dog to the beach.

From a young age, Dr. Grounds was fascinated by health sciences and biology that spurred his passion for helping others. Thinking he wanted to be a physical therapist, a lot of his early education was focused around taking pre-med classes where he stumbled upon an internship in a Sports Chiropractic Office. After seeing people walk in with pain and walk out with a smile on a daily basis, that was when he knew Chiropractic was the perfect path for him.

After graduating high school in 2010, he attended Texas A&M University in Galveston for 2 years majoring in Marine Biology until transferring to University of Houston in Clear Lake to finish his bachelor’s degree in Human Fitness and Performance. During his time at UHCL, he was working as a personal trainer at a fitness competition gym which helped him use his education in action. After finishing undergrad in Spring of 2014, he started the following trimester at the evidence-based Texas Chiropractic College in Fall of that year. He graduated in 2017 with a specialization in sports medicine taking extracurricular courses such as muscle scraping and taping techniques. He then took the position as Clinic Director at QualCare Rehabilitation and Allied Medical Centers until moving to Ketchikan in 2020.

His approach to care is movement is the best medicine. With the proper guidance and recovery methods, the body has the means to heal itself. The job of the Chiropractor is to help facilitate and speed up that natural recovery through spinal adjustments and other modalities. The tools that set him apart from other chiropractors is his use of specialized soft tissue techniques such as muscle scraping, taping, and dry needling with electric stimulation.
